1st half done and done!

ORDER YOUR HOLIDAY APPAREL BY THIS THURSDAY, NOV 24TH!

Ladies,

What a great turn out we had last week for our parent's night! Thank you to all the parents that made it out to support your girls and the team. It was a very successful and fun night for us coaches and parents to watch your progress.

I want to recognize Bela Balser for winning the award for the 1st half of open gym. Bela has demonstrated, dedication, amazing work ethic, consistency and sportsmanship throughout the time we have had together. Bela, has only been playing softball for a handful of years and you would have never guessed that was the case. Congratulations Bela for setting the example and stepping up as a senior this year!

Now that we have some time off, I am going to stress again as I did last Thursday to not lose stride. You all have made great improvements this first half and lets keep the ball rolling into the new year and come back better than ever.

Here are some suggested ways to keep sharp through the holiday.

  1. Commit to 30 mins per day or a 2 hours per week doing the following,
    • Throwing/playing catch
    • Go for a jog
    • Swing a bat
    • Hit off a tee (hand extension drill, walk up, full swing)
    • Everydays
    • Throw a tennis ball against a wall and work on hand eye coordination
    • Hit the batting cage
  2. Put a scheduled time weekly in your calendar on your phone with a reminder
  3. Plan to practice with a friend or family member
  4. Remind yourself that something is better than nothing
  5. Get on Instagram and watch hitting and fielding videos; save them and watch them 2-3 times a week for 15 minutes. This will train your brain and keep you motivated at the same time to keep up on your skill level.
Now, have a great break and we will see you in January!

I want to wish all of you a Happy Holiday!

Week 11 was a SUCCESS!

Ladies,

Week 11 has come to an end and we are now entering our last week of open gym until our break for the holiday. With our 11 weeks of open gym I have seen quite the improvement in your skill level and  overall growth from day 1.

This week is crunch time, we have 3 more days together before the break and then you are on your own for the next month and a half. Now, take what we have done and implement it during the off time.

This week we have Parent Night on Thursday. So don't forget to let your parents know they are invited and have them bring a chair. We are still putting together the groups for Thursday's open gym, so don't forget to sign up! You won't want to miss out!

Lets make it a great week!

Week 7...done and done!

Ladies,

As we approach the moratorium break we will continue to implement drills that you can do at home during the off time. During our time off it is extremely important we continue to sharpen our skills and continue to improve.

During the next 2 weeks, please make sure you are all continuing to ask great questions and perfect your skills. I know I have said this week after week and I will say it again, we are really impressed with every single one of you. Our time together these past 7 weeks has been so great watching all of you continue to grow and improve.

Lets make the best of our 6 more days together until you all have completed the 1st half of open gym.

This week we worked on:

  1. Defensive skills- ground balls, fly balls, drop steps, body placement, and team defense
  2. Offensive skill- lots of reps, t work, hand extension, and weight distribution
Remember to take these drills and perfect them, I promise it will pay off in the long run. Tryouts is right around the corner and what we have been practicing these past 7 weeks will be implemented during our week of tryouts together.

I asked all of you on Thursday, "what do we need to make sure we are focusing on?"

  1. Talking to each other
  2. Knowing where the next play is- "If the ball is hit to me where am I going?"
  3. Throws
  4. Throws
  5. Throws.... (I think you all realize how important this is)

FOCUS
WORK
REPEAT

What a great 2 days we had together, now lets make it an even better week and really step it up by implementing the fundamentals and having one successful day at a time.

Thank you all for all of your dedication these 7 weeks!

See you all on Tuesday!

Go Eagles,

ANNOUNCEMENT: PARENT NIGHT!!!

Ladies,

We are going to have a parent night on November 16th!

What does that mean???

It means tell your parents to come and watch how AWESOME you all are.

This allows you to show off your skills and progress this 1st half of open gym. Plus, it allows me to brag about how great you all are to the people that matter the most in all of your lives.

It will be a fun end to the 1st half, so plan to be there 5-7p and tell your parents to join you. As you all know, there isn't a ton of available seating so please plan to have your parents bring a chair to sit on.

At the end of open gym we will be giving away an award for attendance, effort, attitude and overall sportsmanship.

Keep up the hard work ladies!

Week 6

Ladies,

We are approaching our moratorium break here in November. You all have put in a lot of work throughout our time together and we have noticed the difference in all of you from week 1. We have push, pulled, yelled, laughed and have had so much fun. Your dedication to your own personal growth as athletes has been impressive.

We have asked you to be curious and open to learning. You all have done exactly what we have asked. As we finish out the 1st half of open gym this November, the one thing we ask of you is to not lose the momentum. Keep moving and working even when we aren't together.

The best athletes are the ones that take it upon themselves to always be learning, working and growing. Over the past 6 weeks we have given you all the tools to be successful. Remember that your efforts are never a waste even on your worst day. Remind yourself that all of your work and dedication will pay off.

This week we put you in team defense and put  pressure on your hitting. Things to take away from the week are the following.....

  1. Start down stay down
  2. Check your hand while throwing, where should it be and what should it look like?
  3. Stay off of your heels, you play the ball and don't let the ball play you
  4. Stay aggressive at the plate
  5. Keep your chin on the ball (hitting)
  6. Level, fluid, and aggressive swing!

As we approach week 7 we are going to continue to put you in situations that you will see during tryouts,so its crucial that you show up ready to go every single day. March will be here before we all know it! So lets make the best of our time together and have some fun!

DON'T FORGET NO OPEN GYM ON
OCTOBER 31st

Keep up the hard work!

Tuesday Open Gym Only..Happy Fall Break!

Ladies,

We will be having open gym this week only on Tuesday, October 17th. With fall break being here this week, I will leave it up to you to get one additional day of practice in at home.

What does this look like?

  • Swing your bat for 20-30 mins (T work, batting cage, etc)
  • Throw and do every days
  • Go for a jog and throw a ball for 15 mins
  • Have a family member or friend throw you ground balls for 20 mins (pop your feet, weight out front, butt down and work on mechanics)

It is important that we don't lose momentum. Over the past month you ladies have worked extremely hard and have improved quite a bit. Keep up the hard work and it will continue to pay off.

LAST WEEK RECAP:

Last week we continued to work on our hitting and fielding. We are continuing to watch you all grow as athletes and in your skill level. As coaches, we will continue to teach and push you each week to continue that growth.

Now you all are a little more comfortable with each other and with us as coaches. What normally happens during this time is athletes will remain in the same place until they peak again.  In order to avoid that we have to remember, movement creates movement. It is crucial that around this time we continue to stay focused and become better.

So what happens when you stop moving?

Your progress goes backwards.

Pretty simple right? In order to prevent these things we all have to make sure that we continue to treat every day as our first day.

STAY FOCUSED
WORK HARD
COMMUNICATE
ASK QUESTIONS
FAIL UNTIL YOU GET IT RIGHT
HAVE FUN

Remember, you are as great as you want to be every single day. So, make it worth your time and show up ready to go and ready to work.

Let's make it a great week!

Coach

Week 3 Recap!

Ladies,

Great work! I have to say your hard work is paying off! We can see a huge difference in your skill level in just 3 weeks. Congratulations, that is a great accomplishment.

We switched a few things up and took a lot of cuts, put some pressure on your fielding skills and attempted to perfect the bunt. Our bunting needs a little work and I am confident we will be bunting pros in no time.

As a reminder we will not be having open gym next Thursday so we will want to make sure that we utilize the time we have together Tuesday and Wednesday. Be ready to hit on Tuesday, and remember what we are focusing on in our hitting.

Hitting areas of focus:
1. Weight balanced
2. A strong level swing
3. Hands through the ball
4. Be aggressive

This week our coaches pushed you and tested your ability to perform under pressure and clutch moments. As we have said over the past 3 weeks, its okay to make mistakes. Its okay to ask questions. Its okay to push yourself. This will result in personal growth and a higher skill level.

Keep up the hard work Lady Eagles!

Open Gym Week 3!

Ladies,

This week's schedule will be as follows:

Tuesday, 5pm @ Indoor
Wednesday, 5pm @ Indoor
Thursday, 5pm @ Indoor

Week 2 of open gym has come to an end and I have to say I'm really impressed with all of you last week! We have seen great improvements in skill level and it has only been 6 days of open gym thus far. Keep up the hard work and we look forward to seeing you all continue to grow!

October is a big month for us,  21 days to work hard and improve your skill level before holiday break. Make every practice count with the intention to get better every day. No time is ever wasted when we are learning and growing.

As a reminder here are some key components of the week;

1. Make every move count, because it matters. Don't cheat your self when working on drills and mechanics. Open gym is here to help you learn and grow as an athlete and in the sport.

2. Don't be afraid to ask questions, use this time to utilize your coaches and peers. If you are unsure of what you should be doing or if you are doing a drill or exercise correctly, stop what you are doing and make sure you are utilizing the time we have to get better.

3. HUSTLE, HUSTLE, HUSTLE, always do your best because anything less just doesn't feel as good as giving your all.

4. Lots of reps, remember this time of year is meant for a lot of repetitions. What does that mean? Doing the same movements over and over again until you become a pro at it! Make the hard stuff look easy because you have put in the work and dedication to be great.

I look forward to seeing all of you this week!

Make it great,

Coach

Great work ladies!

Week one down for softball open gym and I consider it a great success!

As a reminder here are some key components of the week;

The off season is just as important as regular season. Taking what we learn every single week and practicing not only with the team, at home as well. Practicing 1 day a week on your own will help you see a huge difference in not only your skill level but your confidence as well.

This year lets take advantage of all of the things we can control so we create better outcomes and enjoy the victories along the way.

Great work this week ladies and keep it up!
